Ashlynn Park

Seoul-born, New York–based fashion designer Ashlynn Park’s work draws from fine art and architecture, pairing a mostly monochrome palette with sculptural tailoring, precise drapery, and silhouettes that flirt with the avant-garde. After working in the ateliers of Yohji Yamamoto, Alexander Wang, and Raf Simons’s Calvin Klein, she launched her own label ASHLYN in 2020 with an inaugural collection of voluminous skirts and sexy, undulating seams. Each collection is themed, and Park’s themes tend toward the conceptual: “identity,” “vessels,” the persimmon fruit. Her latest collection, titled “Circling the Square,” is a reflection on the act of making itself—the process of turning a two-dimensional pattern into a three-dimensional form. Debuted this month during New York Fashion Week, the garments feature asymmetrical hems, flouncy embellishments, and pops of primary color.

In the six years since Park founded ASHLYN, her singular designs have earned plenty of institutional attention: In 2021, one of her dresses was acquired by the Met’s Costume Institute (it now has three), and in 2025 she was awarded the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund for emerging designers. Here, Park shares what she needs to take her designs from the sketchbook to the runway.
